The Bridge was a coffee shop/book store in Egg Harbor that was loved by many who visited for coffee, books, music and lots of conversion. When we came upon the property, we didn’t know about the history of the coffee shop, we just saw a building that needed some tender loving care. The bones were good and we could see the potential, so we took a leap of faith and decided to purchase it and turn the three story coffee shop into our home on the first two floors and a yoga studio (Serenity Bridge Yoga) on the ground level.
Mike and I along with a lot of contractor renovated all levels of the house. The top floor was open and we turned it into three bedrooms and a bathroom. The second floor had a stairwell that ran through the middle and we turned it into an open concept kitchen/family room with a bathroom and laundry room. The bottom floor was open and we created a hallway that leads to a mudroom and a yoga studio. The 2800 square foot home has a clean, light and airy feel The colors are neutrals with subtle pops of color. The second and third floors have large windows that frame beautiful views of Egg Harbor.
The house is surrounded by lovely gardens. I recreated most of them and they are in their very first stages of growth. There are three primary gardens. The garden along the sidewalk is colorful and bright and designed to welcome you into our home and studio. The gardens along the driveway display an orderly row of cedar trees that are enhanced by large field stone. The garden below the bridge is a hillside garden which displays an array of beautiful seasonal flowers that surround the patio and the entrance of the yoga studio. Field stone is used throughout this garden as a natural divider of flowers and as a feature wall.
The bridge is a unique structure that adds function and beauty to the outside of the house. It brings you to the front entrance of the house and adds shade to the plants below. It also looks wonderful as it enhances the front door and adds an element of structure to the lower garden. It was the inspiration for the name of the coffee shop and it is the inspiration for the yoga studio.
